Luxury SUVs have grown faster, wider, and more powerful over the past decade — but few manufacturers have seriously explored how far off-road that luxury can go. At the 2026 FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, Bentley Motors unveiled a vehicle that does exactly that: the Bentayga X Concept.

This is not a production model — yet. Instead, Bentley describes the Bentayga X Concept as a testbed, created to stimulate feedback and explore whether there is demand for a more focused, off-road-oriented Bentayga.

From an SUV perspective, that alone makes it important.

What Is the Bentayga X Concept?

At its core, the Bentayga X Concept is Bentley asking a simple but bold question:

Can a true ultra-luxury SUV also be genuinely off-road capable — without compromise?

Unlike cosmetic “off-road” packages seen across the industry, the Bentayga X Concept is mechanically reworked, visually purposeful, and engineered for extreme conditions, debuting appropriately on snow and ice at the FAT Ice Race.

Although it’s a concept, Bentley has been unusually transparent with the technical details.

  • Ground clearance: just under 310 mm

  • Wading depth: over 550 mm

These figures place the Bentayga X Concept firmly into serious off-road territory — not just gravel roads or snow-covered driveways.

Design: Purpose Over Flash

Visually, Bentley has kept the Bentayga X Concept refreshingly functional.

  • Roof-mounted storage system

  • Four auxiliary spotlights for extended off-road driving

  • Prominent titanium Akrapovič sports exhaust

  • Twin front towing eyes

One particularly clever touch is the roof-mounted electric go-kart — a nod to FAT’s karting culture, but also a subtle demonstration of increased cargo capability.

With the roof setup fitted, total height rises to 2.49 metres, reinforcing that this is a Bentayga built to explore, not pose.

Why Bentley Built It (And Why It Matters)

Bentley already covers two ends of the Bentayga spectrum:

  • Bentayga Speed → performance and dynamics

  • Bentayga Extended Wheelbase → rear-seat luxury

The Bentayga X Concept explores the third pillar: extreme off-road ability.

Crucially, Bentley says this concept exists to gather feedback. That suggests this isn’t just an ice-race showpiece — it’s market research on wheels.

Could a Production Bentayga X Exist?

Bentley has not announced pricing or production plans, but context matters.

A production Bentayga X would likely:

  • Sit above the Bentayga Speed

  • Be limited-run

  • Compete with high-end off-road luxury SUVs

  • Carry a price comfortably beyond the standard Bentayga range

In short: if this reaches production, it won’t be cheap — but it will be distinctive.

From a Sports Utility Vehicles standpoint, the Bentayga X Concept is one of the most honest luxury SUV concepts we’ve seen in years.

It doesn’t dilute Bentley’s identity. Instead, it expands it — proving that luxury SUVs don’t have to avoid mud, ice, and rough terrain to remain desirable.

Whether or not it reaches production, one thing is clear:
